Artificial grass at
Warren Wood Primary School.
I fitted around 54 m² of artificial grass on the embankment beside the playground. Two manhole covers sat in the middle of the slope. The school needed to be able to lift both of them once the grass was down.

A closer look at the manholes
Hidden under the grass. Both covers still lift.
I formed a concrete surround around each manhole, then fitted the grass over the covers. From the playground you see one sweep of grass. Up close, you can just make out the outline where each cover lifts for maintenance.

The installation
Rebuilding the playground bank.

Lifting the old turf
I cleared the old grass, planters and slide from the slope and took all the waste off site.

Preparing the slope
I compacted an MOT Type 1 stone base, then levelled and compacted a layer of grano to give the grass a smooth bed.

Fitting the grass
Timber set in concrete retains the border at the top, with concrete edging around the sides. I laid weed membrane over the grano before fitting and securing the grass.
